Many travel enthusiasts who start their own travel agent business cast a wide net. They help any and everybody plan their dream vacations, which can be really exciting! But there can also be big benefits to narrowing in on one area of expertise. For example, travel agent niches can be anything from exclusively booking Disney trips to focusing on luxury getaways or even sports-focused vacations. 

Building a niche travel business doesn’t mean learning a new sector from scratch. In fact, many successful travel agent niches come directly from an entrepreneur’s already established hobbies or interests!

Do you enjoy organizing events or trips for your friends, family, or hobby groups?*

Yes! I’m always the planner and I love organizing the details.

Sometimes. I’ll help out if needed, but I don’t always take the lead.

Not really. I prefer to just show up and participate.

Have you ever traveled to a destination to do a certain activity or participate within a specific community?*

Yes! I base my own travels around my special interests, like sports, hobbies, music, or communities I’m a part of.

Occasionally. I like vacationing just for the sake of vacationing, but I’ve also enjoyed traveling for more specific events.

Never. I just choose a destination because of the place itself, not because of anything specific going on there.

How deeply involved are you in your favorite communities or hobbies?*

Very involved. I’m an active member, leader, or consider myself an expert.

Not very involved. I mostly enjoy my interests solo.

When traveling or pursuing your hobbies, how much research do you normally do?*

Tons! I scour reviews, forums, and blogs to find the absolute best experiences.

A fair amount. I’ll look up a few recommendations before I go.

Not much. I prefer to wing it and see what happens.

Do you consider yourself a "go-to" person for advice in your area of interest?*

Definitely! People are always asking me for my recommendations.

How important is it to you that you’re passionate about your work?*

Very. I want to wake up every day pumped up to get to work!

Somewhat. I hope to do work that I enjoy, but I’m okay with some of my duties not lighting me up.

Where are you on your travel agency journey?*

I already have my own travel agency franchise — and I’ve been thinking about how to grow my business and build an empire!

I haven’t started yet, but I feel confident that I’d thrive as a travel agency owner.

I’m not sure. Starting a travel agency is on my radar, but I’m uncertain whether it’s the right path to take.
