Jack & Janette Hankins: From Air Force to New Travel Dreams

Janette Hankins

We sat down with Jack and Janette Hankins to learn more about their experience with running their own Dream Vacations travel agency franchise.

When did you become a CruiseOne/Dream Vacations franchise owner?

May of 2014

What did you do before opening your franchise?

We served in the Air Force.

Why did you decide to open a travel agency franchise?

We wanted flexibility and adventure, in addition to using our expertise from traveling in the military.

How have your skills carried over from your previous career?

Skills from traveling to working with customers have been beneficial in our career change.

What is one thing you wish somebody told you before you opened your travel agency?

There is new information every day about new resorts/cruises. There is so much information to learn/know…geography, seasons, configurations, documents, weather, etc.

How has your business grown over time? (Sales improvement, percentage improvement, focus on certain markets, products, niches or groups, client base growth, etc.)

Yes, we have grown our business every year and have a good standing of repeat customers.

What tool/resource/team at HQ has contributed most to your growth and why?

First, the week-long training, the National/regional Conference, definitely barnone the support services team, and regional trainings. Also, to have other franchise owners as friends

What advice do you have for a franchise owner who is looking to grow their business?

Get involved with the community and networking groups. Also, find a niche. I definitely prefer booking cruises over all-inclusives.

What advice do you have for somebody looking to own a travel franchise?

Effort equals outcome/income. You cannot just sit back and expect bookings to happen. However, this has been the best business decision for our life we want to live.

What is your Dream Vacation?

Well, we have been to Bora Bora already…(unfortunately before we had our franchise) but my next one is The Galapagos.
