What do you like best about owning a Dream Vacations travel agency franchise? I love working for myself and facing the challenge everyday of how to grow and maintain my business. I’m always asking myself, “What can I do to find new clients?”
Advice for somebody purchasing a franchise: Don’t be afraid to take the plunge, especially if you have experience in the industry. Think of it as your “baby”… it’s going to be very small at first, but with every event that you work and contact that you make, it’s going to grow. It’s something that you have to nourish, protect, and work at every day to see results.
What is the best part about the support you get from Dream Vacations? The corporate support that I’ve received has been incredible! I know that if I have a problem or a question I can pick up the phone and call without hesitation. Everyone is always courteous, professional and quick to help resolve whatever issue I may have. Also, the professional marketing programs and websites have made it very easy for me to grow and maintain my business.
How do your military skills translate into franchise ownership? I have to laugh at this question because when I was in the Air Force I was a Command & Control Specialist/Emergency Actions Specialist. I put those skills to work every time I sit down at my desk. I was trained to multi-task and handle whatever situation may arise. And, believe me, there are times when you have to handle an emergency for a client. It can be stressful in the moment, but the satisfaction is unparalleled when you’ve helped them resolve it. And as a franchise owner, it’s very important to be in control of your business. Knowing your numbers and where you are in relation to reaching your goals is very important to be a successful business owner.
What do you wish you knew before you started? I wish I knew how much fun I was going to have being a travel agent because I would have started long before I did!
What’s Your Dream Vacation: My Dream Vacation is an African Safari. I want to ride in a hot air balloon as the sun rises over the Maasai Mara while giraffes, antelope, and elephants run below as we glide along. Included in my safari would be a gorilla trek adventure along with a stay at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, Kenya. Last, but not least, my safari would include a visit to the magnificent Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River!
