Jeff Leach: Leadership’s Support in Travel Agency Franchise is Amazing
Being an outgoing people-person is an important trait in owning a home-based travel agency franchise, and customer service is of utmost importance in sales. Just ask Jeff Leach, who used be a Customer Service Manager before joining the travel industry.
Name: Jeff Leach
Year Joined Franchise: 2013
Prior Occupation: Customer service and service manager for a large uniform corporation for 4 years, and owner of a small rent-to-own company prior to that.
How did you transition from your prior occupation to starting a travel business…and what did that transition look like? I left the uniform company and immediately began research and marketing for this franchise full time. I had a strong background in marketing, sales, and customer service…which are all vital skills of business ownership.
What do you like best about owning a CruiseOne/Dream Vacations travel agency franchise? First of all, the industry is amazing. Everyone seems dedicated to helping each other grow. Second, the support we get from Headquarters is amazing. But, most of all, I love being able to provide lasting memories for our clients.
Advice for somebody purchasing a franchise: Be realistic about your economic situation, and understand the limitations of compensation in this industry. Talk to franchise owners who are in the top 10 producers and those that are toward the bottom. Decide if you want to do this as a “hobby” or if you want to compete to be among the best.
What is the best part about the support you get from CruiseOne/Dream Vacations (Support services, marketing programs, websites, tech support, regionals, national conference, etc.)? The biggest reason we chose Dream Vacations was the websites and tech support. We have not been disappointed. But, we have been even more impressed with the support we get from management for our clients issues and needs.
What do you wish you knew before you started? I know it sounds cliché, but I wish I knew what I didn’t know. I really thought I knew a lot about travel before I started, but I had no idea how much I didn’t know.
What’s Your Dream Vacation: Three weeks in the Southern Pacific…Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific islands.
